In 8th grade, I wrote "artist" twice when asked about career aspirations.
In 1999, I earned my Bachelor Professional (Meisterbrief) in hairdressing.
Today, I serve a diverse clientele seeking enduring, trend-defying cuts and colors in my spacious, naturally lit studio.
With an eco-conscious approach, I continually refine my methods, focusing on minimalism and sustainability. Clients enjoy personalized service in a relaxed, productive atmosphere.
“Infusing artistry with sustainability, I craft enduring cuts and colors that truly work.”

As the year winds down we’re reflecting on our tremendous community of clients with gratitude–and amazement. Your continued diligence has helped us all avoid illness (no small feat!) while your openness to change has helped us eliminate plastic from the studio (hooray!).
Autumn has begun to color this town in the most amazing shades. We find ourselves inspired by the deep reds, vibrant oranges and delicious yellows. Aren’t you?
In honor of Earth Day, we want to update you on our continuous efforts to be environmentally friendly. Our sustainability journey continues with a climate action partnership with Green Circle Salons. Starting this year, we are officially carbon neutral!
Hello, friends!
As the State, City, and CDC lift their mask mandates, we want to check in and let you know what to expect when you arrive in the studio.
Happy New Year!
There’s a lot to be said about starting the new year off on the right foot. For us, this means making our footprint as small as possible.
We’ve already eliminated single-use plastic containers and fully embraced all-organic Oway products. And now, if you bring in your empty Oway bottle we can refill it with your choice of shampoo, conditioner and/or hair mask, too!
This is a hard email to send out, so let’s just rip the band-aid right off. As of 1/1/22 we will no longer offer Saturday appointments.
But why? Honestly, it comes down to family.
And they’re back.
You probably already heard, but due to new CDC guidelines clients and staff must return to wearing masks in the studio–despite vaccination status.
Our staff is vaccinated. Most of you are vaccinated. We’re all expecting things to go back to normal. In some ways they are–hugs! meals with friends!–and in some ways they’re not.
At the studio one of the things that might feel new to some of you is having to schedule your appointment pretty far in advance. The studio has indeed gotten busier and Antje is seeing as many clients as possible while still providing customized, one-on-one services.
Summer’s here! And it finally feels like we can start to relax a bit and enjoy the freedom of these longer days.
Personally, I will fully relax when these Covid numbers stay low through the fall and my kids can get a vaccine. For now, I’ll take my mask off around fully vaccinated people–and that includes at the salon. It’s been wonderful to see everyone’s faces and smiles–and don’t get me started on how exciting it is to see where people’s cheekbones are! And those nose bridges! And mouth shapes! Seeing your lovely faces helps me give you the best style possible, not to mention the joy of seeing those smiles again.
Another day, another mask update!
Fully vaccinated clients, you’ll now have the option to remove your masks in the studio. We’re making this change based on Chicago’s improving case numbers. We will continue to keep an eye on this and will adjust our policies as needed.
Thank you for filling out our mask survey. I hear your concerns, and masks will remain required in the studio–for staff and clients–until further notice.
A fresh haircut feels great. It boosts our confidence, celebrates our personality and elevates our everyday. But guess what, a good haircut also can buy you a little extra time.
My clients are all unique and our chair chats reflect a range of experiences. And still, themes emerge–topics or feelings or a general mood I pick up on over a few weeks.
Happy New Year!
It’s hard to believe that this time last year we were just starting to see glimpses of how much this pandemic was going to upend our lives.
It’s been a year of loss for all of us. Lost income & jobs, lost holidays & cultural experiences, lost security, and, of course lost lives. There was a lot of loss, and we have to honor that.
Winter is upon us and while there are things to celebrate we’re also staring down a drastic uptick in Covid cases. While we acknowledge the calls from our officials to stay home as much as possible, we’re grateful the decision is being left up to all of us to make informed decisions for ourselves.
We’re renting our sunny and serene studio space during our off-hours. Read on for details and how to contact us.
Coming in for a color? Bring your computer–we made a cozy workspace for you to use during processing.
Whether you massacred your fringe or let it grow, we’re ready to get you back on track.
This is how AKS Chicago will survive–and here’s what I’ve learned from survival-mode.
