Changing things up

One thing I hear a lot from folks walking into AKStudio is:


“You changed things around again!”

It always surprises me. The studio is a salon, sure … and my lab, my creative corner, and my quiet oasis. That’s why hair services are by appointment only and the studio is tucked away like a speakeasy. Things change here, including space and schedule. Sometimes because I’m deep in a project and need the space to shift. Other times, the feng shui’s just off and needs correcting. The more chaos outside, the more the studio needs to be a sanctuary … for everyone.

Just like my studio, your hair needs regular check-ins and adjustments to whatever life’s throwing at you. It shifts with time, seasons, circumstances, and how much energy you’ve got to give. Change is natural, even if it’s not always easy. Personally, I find that kind of transformation—this ecdysis—fascinating. New texture, new color, new options. It’s not for everyone, but hair keeps evolving with each season and life shift. It asks us to evolve with it.

Instead of fighting it, why not support it? Let it move in the direction it wants to go. Help it do its thing, shape it to suit your frame, and if you’re up for it, throw in a splash of color for a little excitement. Find ways to compromise, make new agreements, and create your own unique style along the way.

Hair isn’t just about trends or up keeping. It’s part of your journey, it evolves. It doesn’t work for you in your current chapter?
