To bar or not to bar
About five years ago, I dove into the world of shampoo and conditioner bars—a truly eco-friendly alternative. Bars get a bad rap sometimes, but what I love is their incredible efficiency—one bar lasts for 50 washes, significantly reducing plastic waste. They travel well with zero liquid mess, and their packaging is usually recyclable or compostable, making them a great zero-waste choice.
The challenge has been finding bars that hold their scent, don’t leave residue, and actually work well, especially for color-treated hair. Many bars can dull color or cause irritation, even with clean, SLS-free ingredients. But the environmental benefits keep me experimenting.
My latest find? Viori bars. These beauties smell amazing, are free from harmful additives, use rice water, and actually deliver results—all while being kind to the planet. If you’re curious, maybe pick one up at your next appointment and see how it feels.
That said, I’m still cautious about recommending bars for color-treated or permed hair. If you’re one of my color clients with vibrant tones, let’s hold off on going bar-crazy! Your color will fade quicker. But from an environmental standpoint, these bars are definitely a step in the right direction.
